We welcome new neighbors, commemorate civic events, and involve Orono residents and friends of Orono alike in the positive promotion of our beautiful city.”

The city of Orono is named after Chief Joseph Orono of the Penobscot Tribe. Chief Orono was said to be “always inclined to peace and good neighborhood… What the grand and sonorous name he bore signified.” The Orono Garden Club strives to purposefully support actions that honor the ideals of Chief Orono of peace and good neighborhood.

- Parks and Facilities – The City of Orono maintains over 260 acres of parks, trails and open space. Parks offers a variety of recreational amenities for the community including open spaces, trails, athletic fields, playgrounds, Golf Course, Lake Access Points and Beaches. In addition Orono residents are serviced by a variety of park, recreation, open space and trail facilities provided by, regional and state government, the Orono School District, and private enterprise.
- Orono Public Schools – Orono Schools (ISD #278) is located on a beautiful, 120-acre campus in Long Lake, Minnesota, in the west-metro area of Minneapolis. Organized in 1949, the district serves resident students in all or part of the following communities: Independence, Long Lake, Maple Plain, Medina, Minnetonka Beach and Orono. The statewide enrollment options program allows families who live outside school district boundaries to apply for open enrollment into Orono Schools.
